FASHION FIGHTS CANCER LAUNCHES THE GLOBAL FASHION FIGHT CAMPAIGN IN HONOR OF BREAST CANCER AWARNESS MONTH

Campaign Unifies Fashion Community to Create Once-In-A-Lifetime Experiences for Cancer Patients

Organization Hosts Events to Raise Awareness and Funds for Programs and NYC Therapeutic Center

(New York, NY – October 4, 2011) Fashion Fights Cancer (FFC), a non-profit organization designed to nurture the minds, bodies, and souls, of cancer patients and survivors through fashion and design-oriented activities, has announced the official launch of The Global Fashion Fight campaign in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. The campaign is a multi-level platform which creates unique therapeutic opportunities to positively impact sufferers and survivors of cancer. It includes programs such as The Global Fashion Fight Design Series which gives cancer patients an intimate perspective from high-end designers on the creativity involved in fashion. In addition to the programs, FFC will host The Global Fashion Fight Exhibit presented by Duggal, Sample Sale and Benefit from October 25th – 27th at 25CPW to raise funds for programs and help build an FFC therapeutic center in NYC.

The Global Fashion Fight Design Series is a once-in-a-lifetime occasion where cancer patients are treated to sessions from top fashion designers and rising stars. Students are taught a variety of design techniques in four classes at each partner’s design studio. The lives of the cancer patients become enriched as they work in a creative and energetic space to create, or customize, items of their choice. The Global Fashion Fight Design Series has proven to be a therapeutic form of expression through fashion. This program began the precursor to FFC’s fundraising to give the industry and local community the opportunity to take a first-hand look at their mission. As programs are under way, it is important that the organization hosts initiatives that will aid in providing more therapeutic opportunities for cancer patients.

The event initiatives will begin with The Global Fashion Fight Exhibit presented by Duggal in partnership with 25CPW Gallery. Shot and curated by Chayo Mata, an FFC program participant, fashion photographer and cancer survivor, “Victorious” captures subjects as victors who fight cancer with style and grace. As the former assistant to fashion photographer, Steven Meisel for Vogue and Vogue Italia, Mata used her expertise to give cancer patients and survivors a glamorous opportunity to emulate professional models. Notable subjects include fashion designer, Carmen Marc Valvo, author/producer of Why I Wore Lipstick to My Mastectomy book and movie, Geralyn Lucas and Photo Director of Glamour Magazine, Suzanne Donaldson, Huffington Post blogger, Maya Gottfried and celebrity hairstylist, Jamal Hodges. The exhibit will be held for three days and is open to the public; guests may RSVP and make tax-deductible donations at the event or via www.fashionfightcancer.org.

Fashion houses have also joined the cause by participating in The Global Fashion Fight Sample Sale. The annual event will be held on the evening of October 25th with top names in fashion such as Tadashi Shoji, Shoshanna and many others. Shoppers will be given the opportunity to do good as they update the chic quotient of their fall wardrobe. They will also be able to peruse the exhibit throughout the evening of the sample sale. In addition to the retail therapy, clothing purchases and cash donations made to FFC will be tax-deductible.

To close out the events, guests will enjoy an evening of Glamthropy at The Global Fashion Fight Benefit. On October 27th, FFC will honor campaign partners who have been instrumental in helping the organization provide programs for sufferers and survivors of cancer. The benefit will also give guests the opportunity to meet FFC program participants and hear their first-hand testimony of how this campaign has positively impacted their lives. Although the benefit will conclude the series of events, FFC is dedicated to harnessing the collaborative power of the fashion industry year-round through The Global Fashion Fight to assist cancer patients and survivors in fighting the good fight.
